How It Works
To use nüMaps Lifetime, all you need is your Garmin device, your computer and a USB cable. There are no monthly fees or continuing maintenance costs; you pay only once. When you want to update your maps, connect your device to your computer and log into your myGarmin account, where the latest map data is ready to load to your device.    This is a great deal. We can update 4 times per year for the lifetime of the Garmin. We were trying to decide between updating our present Garmin and purchasing a newer model. Since we have been very happy with this model, the update seemed to make more sense.

   I needed to buy three Garmin Lifetime Maps; two for the Garmins I bought for my daughters and one as a gift for my in-laws. I was not looking forward to the price tag of purchasing three map updates through Garmin for $120 each, and I was very happy to see the discounted price on Amazon. It saved me over $100. It’s pretty useless to have the Garmin if you don’t buy the maps updates. We are now all up-to-date and I’m very happy!

   Though the price of the Lifetime Garmin map update was very reasonable, I found that downloading the update once I got the gift card was very long and sometimes frustrating. I actually had to call Garmin’s customer service technical department for instructions on how to get through the long delay in downloading from their site. Apparently, there was quite a few people trying to get on the Garmin server at the same time I was attempting it. I finally “bit the bullet” and succeeded in downloading the initial information onto my computer after about 8 hours of slow downloading, even though I had cable modem download speed.

   After the initial download, it took only an hour or so to update the maps on my Garmin Nuvi 255w. The overall comment is “be patient” in allowing the initial download from the Garmin server to your computer to take effect.

   Takes a little time for my gps to update (hours) but definitely worth it. Updated before taking an out-of-state vacation and it took us a new (shorter!) route to our destination. Life changes, so do maps… If you have a Garmin GPS, this is the way to go. Purchased two of these for my husband and I and we’re glad we don’t have to buy one-time updates ever again.

   Product was advertised. No problems with the installation, just be prepared that it takes a long time to install.
