Since I have three different Garmin Nuvi devices; one of which they do not support updates online anymore (#350), I wanted to be able to only update maps once and then be able to put the updated information in the device I travel with the most. Locally, I can suffice with the older maps. When this SD card is put into the device used it works much more quickly and with more detail/choices especially for restaurants and fuel stops. The fact that it included detailed maps of Canada AND Mexico was quite cool plus Puerto Rico (future trip). I recommend this option for those who have multiple Garmin Nuvi devices with the SD card slot and who travel outside of their own home area often so that you will never be lost again. I will continue to support this less expensive option in the future as I do NOT like the one-time purchase of lifetime maps which come at a higher cost and only work on one device at a time. What if Garmin decides to discontinue online support for a particular model? (As has already happened, UGH!!) Thank you Garmin for finally making this less expensive option available in the US!

I have just received the 2011 update for Garmin Nuvi . I will be very frank about it . Yes , it is easy to install for external GPS unit . Please note this SD card will not work for cars that have GPS included — you will have to buy the DVD option for this and load it in your DVD drive in your car . That said I would say I HAVE NOT noticed any changes in the update . I had the 2008 version and the 2011 version does not seem different . Also I have no indication if the SD card works at all since my GPS still says it has 2008 version . I would be careful about spending money on updates if you are not getting any update . I have not noticed ANY difference at all and would say this is a waste of time and money . If anyone knows how to see difference between inserting SD card in and when not inserted , please post in comments .

I bought this to update my 2008 Nuvi. Let me say first that I am in the deep South and 911 addresses in rural counties of Georgia had not been updated from the old county road rural mail addresses in the 2008 Nuvi. 911 addresses have been in effect here for at least 5 years. So I bought this thinking surely the addresses had been up dated by now, but they were not. In several places we were driving on roads that did not exist on the map. Come on people, there are people in places other than New York City

This card is a much easier way to update your Garmin unit than the time consuming, convoluted and sometimes error prone download and install method. You don’t have to worry if your unit has enough internal memory to handle the newer maps, which can be a problem with the download and install method. The maps are loaded on a mini SD card which is placed in a standard SD card sized adapter, so no matter what size card your unit takes this will fit. If your unit uses mini SD, just pop it out of the adapter. Installation is a breeze. Turn off your unit, place the card in the slot and turn the unit back on. When your Garmin powers up, it recognizes the new maps on the card and starts to use them. If you take the card out, your unit will revert to the older maps in its memory. You can also swap the card in and out of other Garmin units. Be aware that this card only updates the maps in the Garmin unit, it will not update Garmin maps you have on your pc that you may use for trip planning.
